STORAGE:
A great percentage of the objects in the Museum are not exhibited, but are kept in storage near the open air museum, located in Brede outside Copenhagen. In the storage rooms the objects are kept in a climatically controlled environment, and staffs of museum conservators are working to restore and preserve the objects.

The Curator for Southeast Asia Bente Wolff did in the spring 2003, partly as a result of the production of this homepage, methodically go through all the objects from Nias to get an overview. The photographs on this page are a rare documentation of that work.

Note how warmly Mrs. Wolff is dressed. Due to the fragile state of many of the objects, the temperature is held at a very low level, it is a dreadfully cold climate to work in for a prolonged period of time.

This is an example of some of the objects that was bought by Dr. Møller and brought back to the museum, in this case it is gold jewellery, that were transported home in an empty cigar case in wich they are still kept to this day.
